Siena Horse Race Day

So today I woke up and went to chapel and then lunch. I wasn't feeling too good in multiple ways and I had done some more research on the horse race and changed my mind about paying to spend 3 hours on a train to get there and back as well as having to stand in a mob crowd where fights break out in the heat and rain and not getting dinner and just being in a mob crowd. Also there aren't really rules so they can hit the other riders and horses with their whips and a few years ago the animal rights groups got really angry because a horse fell and then got trampled because they didn't stop the race and the horse ended up dying a few days later because of the injuries it sustained :(. All of those things added up = me not feeling like going to Siena to see this race, plus we could just watch it on tv. So I rested up here, got some more homework done - (thanks Grammie and Gramps!!!), helped get supplies and set up stuff for the big cookout party we're having tomorrow, did my regular work, went to La Bottega for dinner with Kyle, Mona, and Daniel, and did some wedding planning stuff. So I've had a great day and I'm glad I chose to stay. I hope everyone else had fun. I know some people went to the beach, but I think most went to the race (which lasts about 90 seconds). I'm about to take a shower and get stuff ready for tomorrow and then talk with Tyler. Only 168 days til our wedding and 27 days til I'm home :)

Love you all and hope you have a great 4th of July weekend!

PS - Tomorrow's our last day to worship with the church in Florence and then we have a big cookout/party thing with the American society in Florence tomorrow night. I saw stuff for PB&J's, burgers, hot dogs, puffy cheetos, Dr. Pepper - WHAT?! BTW - in case I haven't mentioned it, DP doesn't exist here so it's a big deal :)

  1. Sara,
We finally made it back to the states. As I write this, it's early Sunday morning and we're still aboard ship. We arrived back in port in New Orleans over night. I decided to get up about 6am. As you can imagine, I'll have a little time to myself before the others are up and around :-)

I now have internet access again, so I've caught up on a week of your blogposts. (Thx again for keeping these updated!)

Our cruise was very relaxing for all of us. I actually read 7 books while onboard. But, before you wig out, most all were quite short (e.g., less than 200 pages).

This ship has a very nice and quiet Iibrary. (You can guess where I could be found. I'll email you a pic of it.) My favorite thing about it was not the three full walls of books, but the three large windows on the fourth wall that always had an ocean view.   (Sorry these windows won't be visible in the pic because of the over exposure from the sunrise this morning.)

As soon as it's our turn to disembark, we'll head out of New Orleans for the day long trip back to Corinth to drop off Trey and Jessica. We haven't decided for sure yet, but we'll probably get a hotel in Corinth tonight and drive back to OKC on Monday, July 4th.

They're starting ship announcements now, so this will wake up the others. And it's probably safe for me to see if they're ready for breakfast.

Of course, it wasn't the same not having you here with us and we all missed you.

With love from the NCL Spirit,
    Daddy

p.s., I hold the record for 15 pieces of watermelon at/as one meal.
p.s.s, I'm upset that Jim beat me to the response to you Dear Prudence fb post...
